I was a bit nervous because he was two weeks old - at the older end of my preferred age range - but Declan was an absolute dream! Here are a few of my favorites from our session.

Any regular reader of my blog knows that I have a very strong preference for photographing newborns as early as possible - ideally between 4-10 days. The older babies can be much more difficult to get to sleep and pose, and Ella's father had warned me that Ella tended to be a bit fussy. You can imagine my surprise when Ella was a complete angel (although awake) for most of the session.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5269/5867476292_25aac78c97_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9108bw"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5319/5867476266_f61d181b02_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9160"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3108/5867476176_15e7c9ba5a_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9244bw"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5066/5867476234_f3e6ca56b0_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9183"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3228/5867476306_5172df5168_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9248"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3220/5867476204_56ece469fa_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9194"></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-3283427226816933132011-06-22T15:42:00.000-07:002011-06-28T11:32:29.969-07:00Omni : 1 Year OldWhat can I say about Omni? Not only did she tolerate three outfit changes and three location changes, she did it with grace. And that infectious smile. <br /><br />My favorite part about Sophie's session was her adorable pink cowboy boots. I think her favorite part was waving to the cars passing by. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5040/5861653798_42fb42becd_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8675"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/5861654110_fc89859ddc_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_8687"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3009/5861101397_5f7805db1d_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_8668"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5237/5861101263_221846a212_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8600"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3137/5861101123_2234f7b7f3_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8712"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5069/5861654000_b24ae0659a_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_8954"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5319/5861101367_7d6ca9ee53_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_8602"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5073/5861653834_27f324ec92_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8630"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3288/5861653914_ab990686a9_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8609"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3221/5861653862_9f32c87a59_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8627"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2742/5861653738_76e91fb79d_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_8723"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2793/5861101469_07cf68ca40_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_8816"></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-72989356304214636712011-06-22T14:50:00.000-07:002011-06-23T15:07:14.218-07:00Graham : 1 Year Old!You might recognize Graham from his <a href="http://angelasmithphotography.blogspot.com/2011/03/graham-9-months.html">9 month session</a> I photographed not too long ago.<br /><br />Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Graham and his family for his 1 year photo shoot. I have been so blessed to work with some of the sweetest and most amazing couples, and Kelsey & Travis definitely do not disappoint. They started out as friends and are so incredibly sweet together. I cannot wait to photograph their wedding in August. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2712/5860944901_3a487fde54_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8858"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/5860944963_143fff0029_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_8870"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3109/5861497080_ea85808cfb_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8893"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5064/5860945149_d05ce67163_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8883"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3286/5861497156_561e01c343_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_8921"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3166/5860944629_b8f5946abc_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8903"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5036/5861496808_14cf15d112_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8909"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3231/5861496754_c40a3d5079_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8918"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3197/5860944271_99fec1e21d_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_8942"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3113/5860945015_1cd0ee1d95_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_9844"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5229/5861497716_d43861c0e9_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_8976"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2729/5861496494_c8513b368f_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_8988"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3017/5860943553_b88c537be9_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_9032"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/5861496188_83f89a786d_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_9040"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5040/5861495760_3a3bcb6c56_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_9048"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5306/5860943141_f6a74170f2_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_9062"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3062/5860942889_03114bb154_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_9088"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5240/5861495230_600a642099_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_9091"></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-12152961057570902982011-04-11T17:42:00.000-07:002011-04-11T18:06:39.167-07:00Brianna : Senior<a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5267/5611236641_f0474afd15_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_7526"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5310/5611819348_9b2d0579df_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_7530"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5141/5611819326_f9c2a001c0_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7551"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5184/5611236527_72f2ac5367_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_7555"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5187/5611236305_f10ab67417_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7592"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5104/5611236277_9345367823_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7619"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5305/5611236253_923830783d_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7622"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5301/5611236217_048b977dec_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7625"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5305/5611236165_164768cd37_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7671"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5185/5611236133_6e97f7006c_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_7697"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5025/5611236107_6f654a5ee1_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_7703"></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5064/5611818882_64b64e1779_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_7716"></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-83254627885845803372011-03-16T08:00:00.000-07:002011-03-16T08:07:23.404-07:00Happy Birthday, Brother : Personal<span style="font-style:italic;">I hate him.</span><br /><br />No, you don't. <br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">No. Really Dad. I HATE him.</span><br /><br />I don't remember a lot from my childhood, but I do remember how much my brother and I fought. And I remember this specific conversation with my Dad. <br /><br />I guess it all makes sense. My brother and I are as different as night and day. These differences are apparent from the moment you meet us - my brother strongly resembles our mother's side of the family; I look just like my dad - but they run much deeper than our physical appearances. <br /><br />I'm the serious one; he's the fun one. I'm practical; he's a dreamer. I love rules and structure; he loves to bend, and sometimes break the rules. I am always planning and thinking of what's next; he lives for the moment.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5134/5529292557_1ff2100f29_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_0044" /></a><br /><br />I don't know exactly when it happened, but I think it started in high school. Instead of seeing our differences as a dividing wall between us, we started to see how our differences complimented each other and added value to our relationship. <br /><br />He has a great sense of humor; I <span style="font-style:italic;">love</span> to laugh. He loves to play music; I love listening to music. He's a good listener; I like to talk. He reminds me not to take life too seriously; I would like to think I keep him grounded.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5295/5529880976_7d336a26c7_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="Tony-2" /></a><br /><br />My brother is one of the most amazing people I know, and I'm not just saying that because he's my brother. He's generous, kind and loyal. Absolutely hilarious. An <span style="font-style:italic;">amazing</span> father, and a loving husband. He's a supportive and loving brother. Anyone that has met him knows exactly what I'm talking about. And they know how blessed they are to call him a friend.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5135/5529881042_9b3c9b60fd_b.jpg" width="601" height="869" alt="IMG_6792bw" /></a><br /><br />Happy birthday, Tony. I am so proud of the man that you are, and feel incredibly blessed to call you both my brother and my friend. Well, besides the doctors, nurses, her mom and her dad... I was the first to hold her. Even before the grandparents. Sometimes, it really pays to be a photographer...<br /><br />With the birth of my brother's first child, we knew they were having a boy, and I was invited in to photograph the birth. It was an <span style="font-style:italic;">amazing</span> experience. Upon finding out they were expecting number two, they decided to switch things up. Not only did they decide to have a private delivery, they also decided not to find out the gender. Even though I begged. <span style="font-style:italic;">And pleaded.</span> <br /><br />The baby's due date came and went, and I {im}patiently waited. And waited. Nine days after her due date, my sister in law went into labor. I packed up my gear and headed to the hospital, eager to meet my new niece or nephew. At 6:39 pm, Aslyn Ryan was born. Shortly after, I was welcomed into the delivery room, where the secret of her gender was revealed to me. <br /><br />I was honored to document her big brother meeting her for the very first time. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5013/5528042154_7ab112807d_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_6692bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5176/5527452143_040c190c3e_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_6697" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5214/5528061110_64f25ac3ea_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_6706bw-copy" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5176/5527452117_354d85c202_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_6707" /></a><br /><br />After we had taken some photos (and I had a chance to hold her) the grandparents came in. Mother Nature doesn't always allow for this, but the rain held out for us, so we made a quick trip downtown for a few more shots.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5011/5527976436_1156eec64e_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6941" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5298/5527385999_fb97d0fc08_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6968" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5291/5527976386_a222ab7641_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6947bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5173/5527386043_0c08a45c61_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6955" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5297/5527385959_a888d18876_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6972bw" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-66913044628908125262011-03-01T08:00:00.000-08:002011-03-01T08:00:09.985-08:00A New Appreciation : Las Vegas Photo ShootAs you might already know, I was recently in Las Vegas attending the 2011 <a href="http://www.wppionline.com/storage/2011/home.html">WPPI convention</a>. I had a long list of classes I wanted to attend and things I wanted to do while I was there, and at the top of my list was to meet Shannon Hollman of Thousand Words Photography. Shannon and I have been friends for almost 4 years, however we had never actually met. In the midst of planning the trip, I came up with the idea that Shannon should take photos of my husband and I in the desert. She had done a session for another couple last year while she was there, and I figured with this being the year of our 10th anniversary, it made perfect sense. Shannon quickly agreed to my proposal and we set a date & time.<br /><br />I have to admit, being on the other side of the camera was quite an experience. I stressed about what my husband and I would wear and how we'd do as subjects. In the week before we left, I went to the mall four separate times. I purchased and returned outfits. Should I wear my hair straight or curl it? I over thought the entire process. During the session, I was clueless. How should I stand? Where should I look? Do I smile or not? Was I squinting? I would be lying if I said it wasn't a huge relief once the session was over. And it made me appreciate my clients and what they go through that much more. <br /><br />Through it all, Shannon and her husband Jeremy were amazing to work with. The session was fun, playful and relaxed - everything it should be. And the results? <span style="font-style:italic;">Amazing!</span> I couldn't be happier with the results and have posted a few of my favorites below. You can see even more images on Shannon's fabulous <a href="http://thousandwordsphotographymt.com/blog/?p=515">blog</a>. Plan on spending some time on her site - you will not be disappointed.<br /><br />Shannon and Jeremy, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It was such a pleasure to spend the day with you and we're so happy we could be a part of your first In N Out experience. Ayla was so excited to have her photographs taken, she refused to sleep for three hours. :) We did a little schedule readjustment and managed to get her to sleep for some photos.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5218/5487636147_075feff7f4_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5338bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5133/5487636229_73a2259823_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5291" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5211/5488232220_5f50e91e21_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5302bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5296/5487636167_3ed9ba578e_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5336bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5134/5487636217_1777300fcc_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5299" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5056/5487636131_8b7b093c75_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5350bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5016/5488232206_48906af9c1_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5332" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5216/5487636123_4a33123e24_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5363bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5133/5487636247_2924fbfe3d_b.jpg" width="601" height="869" alt="IMG_5354bw" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-34681178735659308222011-02-24T14:17:00.000-08:002011-02-24T22:50:18.127-08:00Las Vegas : 2011 WPPII love taking trips. I love the planning, anticipation and excitement that surround a trip, and this trip was one of my most exciting yet. I just got back from Las Vegas, where I attended the 2011 WPPI convention and trade show. This was my first year attending WPPI and in spite of waking up at 6 am three out of the four mornings to attend classes, I had an amazing time. <br /><br />We flew to Vegas with two very good friends of ours, Geoff & Amy Hilgemann. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5020/5474379017_41aecd4ce9_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_6253" /></a><br /><br />We stayed at the MGM, where the convention was held. This was the view to our left.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5219/5474975188_0296d4f629_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6255" /></a><br /><br />The view during the daytime: <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5014/5474379093_c7743c1caf_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6254" /></a><br /><br />And the same view at night:<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5172/5474379497_25e6b350f4_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6264" /></a><br /><br />Geoff was a fantastic travel companion & researched the best places to go in our spare time.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5139/5474974844_a5eb41a904_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="'" /></a><br /><br />Dinner our first night in Vegas.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5015/5474975254_71750120fe_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6261" /></a><br /><br />Since Amy & I were often busy with classes, Geoff & Brandon kept each other company. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5256/5474379765_0474132b80_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="IMG_6277" /></a><br /><br />Amy waiting for our first class to start.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5218/5474975484_522e23c8f4_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6269" /></a><br /><br />Becker spoke to a FULL room and I must say, the new preboard feature offered by WPPI was fantastic.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5100/5474975552_50b1f552fd_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6274" /></a><br /><br />Bobbie + Mike (which we also preboarded for).<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5296/5474975708_e932020a72_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6280" /></a><br /><br />Their photos are beautiful and I must confess, I teared up a little during their slideshow.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5174/5474975782_f0ce12b658_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6284" /></a><br /><br />One of the lighting classes I took:<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5055/5474975904_396efdaced_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6305" /></a><br /><br />While waiting for my next class to start, I walked through the trade show, where I ran into Jasmine Star. She was kind enough to let me follow her to the Leather Craftsmen booth she was getting ready to speak, and JD took this photo of the two of us. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5060/5474380127_1cd9ca1fbe_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6337bw" /></a><br /><br />JD<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5093/5474976086_7c692dd8b1_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6347" /></a><br /><br />She did a raffle drawing at the Leather Craftsmen booth and gave away 4 beautiful albums, and I was the lucky recipient of one of them!<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5097/5474380193_33e6d5b810_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6346" /></a><br /><br />Another lighting class - this one on getting the most out of low light/available light.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/5474976248_575a1d40e6_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6351" /></a><br /><br />It was fun to work with models.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5095/5474380521_988ae134fc_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6357" /></a><br /><br />Excalibur<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5172/5474380591_ebc738003f_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6375" /></a><br /><br />New York New York<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5055/5474380759_f081babd5b_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6380" /></a><br /><br />The city at night<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5095/5474380911_d801d62504_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6402" /></a><br /><br />We walked by this bar while exploring one night, and I just loved the way the back was all lit up.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5179/5474977468_befe590d5d_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6454" /></a><br /><br />I admit - I took too many photos of us in mirrors, but it was an easy way to get photos of the four of us together. :)<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/5474381765_480a64ee5f_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6491bw" /></a><br /><br />My handsome husband waiting for the tram.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5295/5474381953_468fd1e878_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6542bw" /></a><br /><br />The Hilgemann's on the tram.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5097/5474977834_7f448ba133_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6552" /></a><br /><br />Another mirror picture. :)<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5215/5474977724_357199f519_b.jpg" width="870" height="602" alt="IMG_6533" /></a><br /><br />Geoff & Amy on the left. She was doing a rotation and he was finishing up his residency. The attraction was mutual and before long, the after-work <span style="font-style:italic;">group</span> dates turned into after-work <span style="font-style:italic;">romantic</span> dates. <br /><br />Yesterday, Jenny & Keith met me at Sellwood Riverside Park for their engagement session and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. From the beginning, one can see that they have a love that is built on friendship, adoration and respect. They are two of the kindest people and I am honored to be photographing their wedding in July.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5139/5437953874_5f45d7b352_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5462" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5219/5437346131_f172ba0e33_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5466" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5097/5437953810_7d6858c8ab_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5486" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5054/5437346053_8f56bd9df5_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5545" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/5437953730_18e5b2878f_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5555" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4149/5437345993_a1e728dcc3_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5558" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5217/5437953654_c19aecdb10_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5571" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/5437953610_3f756f4980_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5599" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5215/5437953592_1e579dbbfb_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5631" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/5437953530_c59676cbb6_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5675" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5060/5437345747_b596d0de6e_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5680" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4077/5437345717_8349d3425b_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5710" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5132/5437953444_0cdf5e6bb5_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5716" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5294/5437953410_15039fe73b_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5729" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5100/5437345627_d70c9180de_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5731" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4108/5437953374_94c0e09d49_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5736" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5258/5437953336_56c28c7b33_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_5754" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5256/5437953354_a5d75af2b9_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_5744" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-37073312221542250462011-02-03T18:56:00.000-08:002011-02-03T19:56:10.460-08:00Married : Chris & JoanneI was photographing what was supposed to be my last wedding of the year when I received a message from Chris. <span style="font-style:italic;">I'm getting married in three weeks. I know it's short notice, but I was wondering if you were available? </span> The next day, Chris and I spoke over the phone and made arrangements for me to photograph their upcoming wedding.<br /><br />It's not often that I don't meet the bride and groom until the wedding day, but because of our short timeline, such was the case. However Joanne was warm and welcoming the minute I entered her hotel room to take some getting ready photos. By the end of the evening I felt like Chris and Joanne had been friends of mine for years. I truly have the most amazing clients and am so blessed to be allowed into their lives to capture their milestones. <br /><br />Chris & Joanne's wedding took place at the beautiful St. Stephen's in Portland and the reception took place at Gracie's.<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/5415082276_7b208b4287_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9073" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5054/5415088452_eb1845f5a1_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9065" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5294/5414477133_10831b3107_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9170" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5175/5415082238_59bb5f77b5_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9125bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5136/5415082206_a9875dde1e_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9260" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4110/5415082064_40e60510dc_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9324" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5020/5414470611_22fefa9314_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9292" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5140/5415082102_ec9b6668b0_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9339bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5092/5415082018_25c3970e05_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9345" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5293/5414470471_1b89fb2ced_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9435bw" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4147/5415081906_b877a13a35_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9508s" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5211/5415081958_880c1d4f00_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9483" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5175/5414470343_cf491acd5d_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9678" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/5415081760_39fb30638a_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9695" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5012/5414470309_c1b9abd65a_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9681" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/5415081714_2e46d49694_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9795" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/5415081682_c1a24247a4_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9832" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5100/5415081638_4d52d85614_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9888" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5139/5414470143_3da975df9d_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9896" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4104/5415081548_11928220b4_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9924" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5133/5415081518_612439b266_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9943" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5256/5415081468_e20cd7592f_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9957" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5176/5414469977_42df07c91a_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9976" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/5415081394_9382552c22_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_9996" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/5415082332_e0163a6a4f_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_9997" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5220/5415105616_f4ba27b6e5_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_0045" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-17904686855182386802011-01-30T22:17:00.000-08:002011-01-30T22:28:27.527-08:00Lauren : Portland SeniorToday, I met up with Lauren and her father for Lauren's senior portraits, and what a gorgeous day it was! I think I could blog every day until 2012 and still not be caught up. At least I'll have something to keep me busy during the slower time. :)<br /><br />Britnee is another one of my beautiful class of 2011 seniors, and like many of the others, the camera loved her! We planned most of what we were going to do for her newborn session during our maternity shoot, then I (we) eagerly waited for little Knox's arrival. <br /><br />Knox was a photographer's dream in every way. He pretty much slept through the entire session, didn't fight my poses too much, and was cute as can be!<br /><br />I love how mom and dad brought some items from home to really personalize their session. The white chair and blanket are from Knox's nursery. :)<br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4130/5185635297_f4d1139a18_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1540" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1275/5185635347_a6fec841ea_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1543" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1274/5186236994_4289ce48ee_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1603" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1021/5186237016_07d16b49a5_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1591" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1283/5185635239_55a5ac5dbd_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1588" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/angelasmithphotography/5186237132/" title="IMG_2 by asmithphotography, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/5186237132_263e429a44_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="IMG_2" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4089/5186237080_daf41c0c5a_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1564" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4152/5186236952_97624eee66_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1636" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4151/5186236930_02610597b4_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="IMG_1618" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-63584698125327697542010-11-17T14:31:00.000-08:002010-11-17T15:20:08.783-08:00So I never forgetIt wasn't even a month ago that I sat here on my couch, laptop perched on my legs, and swore I'd never see it. Of course, deep down, I knew the light was there somewhere, but I was too buried in work to see it. My heart broke as time after time I sent my kids upstairs to entertain each other instead of taking the time to play a game, build with legos, or paint a picture as they had asked. It broke even more when they just stopped asking. I know that they are not going to stop growing while I sit at my computer all day editing this session or that wedding. I know that too soon, the day will come when they no longer want to play, snuggle and read with me. I know that next fall, my youngest will start kindergarten and my home will be empty and lonely, even if for just 2 1/2 hours a day. <br /><br />I worry that I will look back and have regrets. Regrets about not enough zoo trips. Regrets of replying too often with "just a minute." Regrets about missed opportunities to turn a bad experience at school into a valuable life lesson. <br /><br />I also want to make sure I'm absolutely clear on one thing. <br /><br />Without a doubt, <span style="font-style:italic;">I love my job.</span> LOVE. <br /><br />I realize what a blessing it is to have people pay me to do something I love so much. I realize what a blessing it is that I am able to provide extra money for my family from the comfort of my home. I realize what a blessing it is to have my children home with me while I work instead of a stranger's home. Whole heartedly, I get it. <br /><br />And today, sitting on my couch, laptop perched on my legs, I can see the light. I am trying so hard to be caught up by Thanksgiving, and it's going to be close. I may have few things carry over. You know what? I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is getting up from this couch to find my children have grown up and I've missed it. <br /><br />So I'm taking today off. Instead of working, my daughter and I went to church, had a lunch date in my car, and talked. We snuggled on the couch, had hot chocolate and played a game on my iPhone. This afternoon, I'm going to spend some one on one time with my son. I think we'll go out for a Starbucks and I'll turn that bad thing that happened at school today into what will hopefully be a life lesson about how to deal with disappointment.<br /><br />I took these pictures of Addison playing on my iPhone so I never forget. How little she was. How she curls her toes. How she smiles. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4113/5185203955_0d352892f1_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="addi2blog" /></a><br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1280/5185805978_48079ab4ff_b.jpg" width="870" height="601" alt="addi1blog" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6172991357238105560.post-37517983919407936672010-09-20T09:24:00.001-07:002010-09-20T09:48:57.997-07:002010 Susan G Komen Race for the CureYesterday, Team Nadine hit the pavement for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, along with nearly 40,000 other participants. It must be the time of year, with the race just around the corner and all. Whatever the reason, you've been on my mind <span style="font-style:italic;">a lot</span>. I miss you more than I can express and the way you lived your life is a constant reminder of the way I want to live mine. You are withouth a doubt someone who made this world a better place and I'd like to think at the end of my life, I might have done the same. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4131/4945542131_c398147f5a_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="Granmda 1" /></a><br /><br />You were such a beautiful woman. Not only in your appearance, but deep down into your soul, you were beautiful. Kind, loving, giving, patient, generous, loyal.. The list goes on.. One of my favorite things about you was your sense of humor. I will never forget the year that you drew Curt's name in the gift exchange and gave him the gift of snowman poop. His reaction of not being certain if you were serious or not only made it better. I think about times like these and it makes my heart ache. Because I miss you, of course, but also because I'm left wishing I had taken more time to talk with you. And to listen. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4085/4946127998_3ab5ff28c0_b.jpg" width="870" height="676" alt="Granmda 2" /></a><br /><br />I wish you had been able to see and hold my children. I try to remain thankful that I got to share the news of my first pregnancy with you - I realize it's more than my younger cousins will have - but I can't help but feel ripped off somehow, and a little jealous of my older cousins who got to have you in their children's lives. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/4945542413_b864eff6f2_b.jpg" width="870" height="636" alt="Granmda 3" /></a><br /><br />I admire how content you were. You lived simply, and you were content. Your home was small, and the only one I have ever known you to live in. And you raised five children there. Most days, I struggle with the two I have. I cannot imagine raising five - especially in such close quarters. Yet you did it, and you did it well. I don't think I've ever heard you complain either. About anything. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4138/4945542563_0180d52a3c_b.jpg" width="870" height="550" alt="Grnamda 4" /></a><br /><br />I adore your faith and loyalty. Mom gave me your Bible and it's one of my most treasured posessions. It sits proudly on my mantle and once in awhile, the kids and I will sit down and look through it. I love the family tree section and wish it was filled out more completely. And I love that it has your handwriting in it. <br /> I told them the story about the fifty dollar bill that you found in it. About how you were worried about your finances, so you opened up your Bible to pray, and there it was. That's one of my favorite stories. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4129/4945542711_3c29fd0123_b.jpg" width="870" height="677" alt="Grandma 5" /></a><br /><br />I'm grateful to have you and Grandpa as an example of what a marriage should be like. I doubt it was perfect (although I can't ever remember seeing you fight). I'm certain there were difficult times. But through it all, love remained. You treated eachother with love and respect and you built a strong foundation on which to raise your family. You welcomed others into your home and helped those in need. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4092/4946128518_aa0ea916e4_b.jpg" width="870" height="644" alt="Grandma 6" /></a><br /><br />I hope you know how often I think about you. Your clock hangs in my dining room and every time it chimes, I smile. I can't see a rosebush without thinking of your beautiful rose garden (and you pruning in your bra). :) I sometimes call my daughter by her middle name, just so I can say yours, and I wish I had just given her your name as her first like I had wanted. I wish I could tell you how much you meant to me, although I'd like to think you knew. <br /><br /><a><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4110/4946128654_fc193aa542_b.jpg" width="870" height="604" alt="Grandma 7" /></a>Angela Smith Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01389932238467972037noreply@blogger.com0
